BELLSHILL woman Jean Cowie visited The Big Event at Low Parks Museum recently and liked what she heard about plans to highlight a year-long celebration of events across Lanarkshire.

Celebrating Lanarkshire 2013 is an initiative which aims to highlight the county’s rich history and culture, and mark the bi-centenary of the birth of Blantyre-born explorer and missionary David Livingstone.

Supercounty, Lanarkshire’s Civic Pride campaign, will join forces with North Lanarkshire Council and South Lanarkshire Council to promote the year-long calendar of events.

John Scott, head of Supercounty said: “It’s a wonderful project which will bring together the people and communities of Lanarkshire and highlight the many good and positive events and activities that happen.

“Celebrating Lanarkshire 2013 will look at the county’s achievements and milestones over the past 200 years as well as looking to the future.

“People I’ve spoken to are instantly connecting with the project and suggesting ways in which their organisations can become involved.

“Jean was suggesting how she can link her church with the project.

“It was great to speak with so many visitors of The Big Event and have the opportunity to explain our plans; everyone liked and supported Celebrating Lanarkshire 2013 – which I know will be a fantastic success.”
