AN investigation has been launched after a man held up a Motherwell shop with what appeared to be a gun.

The incident unfolded at the Spar on Hamilton Road around 9.15pm on Friday.

A man entered the shop and threatened two shop assistants - both men aged 24 - with what looked like a firearm inside a carrier bag.

After demanding money, he ran out of the shop and was last seen heading up The Loaning.

Police say the workers were ‘uninjured but very distressed’ by the ordeal.

The suspect is described as being white, around 6’, of heavy build and was wearing a black and blue tracksuit top, light blue tracksuit bottoms and had a scarf covering most of his face.

DC Graham McAdam at Wishaw CID is leading the investigation. He is appealing for anyone who may have seen the suspect hanging around outside the shop prior to the robbery taking place, or anyone who seen him running off afterwards, to come forward.

Information can be reported to Wishaw CID on 01698 202600 or Crimestoppers free and confidentially on 0800 555 111.
