Detailed plans to redevelop an old factory site in Tannochside and build 140 homes have been approved by councillors.

The work is taking place on the 15-acre former Ibstock brickworks land off Old Edinburgh Road.

North Lanarkshire Council has already approved the redevelopment in principle and the factory has been demolished. The planning committee has now given the go-ahead for the removal of a large concrete foundation and the construction of houses.

No play area will be provided so the builders must hand over £70,000 to allow the children’s facilities in nearby Lilac Crescent to be upgraded.

Vehicle access to the new estate will be from Old Edinburgh Road, but a path to Myrtle Road will be created, allowing pedestrian access to Tannochside Primary School and the playpark in Lilac Crescent.
