The 25th anniversary Noreen Davies Hikers and Bikers trip was a great success.

A group which has raised thousands of pounds for charities over the past 25 years enjoyed its traditional day out on the island of Cumbrae.

The Noreen Davies Hikers & Bikers headed ‘doon the watter’ to Millport for its traditional walk and cycle round the island.

The group was set up in 1988 by Noreen Davies, from Baillieston, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Noreen died in 1992 at the age of 34 but the group’s fundraising has continued under Noreen’s cousin Claire Peattie.

Most of the group’s members are from in and around the Bellshill and Motherwell areas and this year six buses departed from Cardinal Newman High School in Bellshill with another leaving from the Castle pub in Uddingston.

Claire said: “Our theme this year was black and silver celebrating 25 years of giving to various charities.

“A prize was given to the best person on each bus with fancy dress headgear. Balloons were released in memory of Noreen and all deceased family and friends.”

Once the proceeds from the day have been totted up cheques will be handed over to various charities at a special presentation night.
