Experts support Race for Life

Fitness and aerobic trainers pitch in

A PERSONAL trainer based at Strathclyde Park is offering his services at the Motherwell Race for Life.

Kenneth Muir runs Bodymorph, a personal training and sports therapy firm at the Boathouse Gym, next to the park's watersports centre.

He will be at the event in the park on Thursday, May 24, offering pre and post race warm-up massages and rubdowns for a small donation to Cancer Research UK.

Aerobics instructor Eleanor Anderson will lead the ladies in a warm up on the day and Kenneth is also available for training in the lead up to the event, donating 10 per cent of fees to the charity.

The course is five kilometres and the event is all about fun. It can be run or walked, or a bit of both, depending on the fitness level of the participant.

Kenneth said: "I was involved in the race last year as a marshall and it's a great occasion, a really fun event for a good cause.

"People can use it as a reason to start a keep-fit regime of their own and set the race as a goal they can work towards over the coming weeks.

"Although the race is fun and people can walk round, they shouldn't turn up on the day and try to jog the whole way round and end up with an injury.

"I can put them on a six-week training course leading up to it and runners can treat it as a stepping stone to personal fitness.

"When it comes to running the race, the biggest tip I can give is to be well prepared and to do the warm up exercises and use our sports therapy marquee to make sure you're ready for it. This way you'll be less likely to injure yourself."

This is only the second year for the Motherwell race and is expected to attract over 2,200 women. The event is expected to raise over 170,000 to go towards Cancer Research UK's investigative work on the treatment and prevention of cancer.

Anyone looking to take part can register now by logging onto www.raceforlife.org or by calling 0870 5134 314.
