Community health help extended
A COMMUNITY mental health service has been put in place to help residents in Motherwell and Bellshill.
The Clubnet service was established in 2006 and mainly operated in Coatbridge and Wishaw, but will now cover all of North Lanarkshire.
Councillor Barry McCulloch, convener of North Lanarkshire Council's Housing and Social Work Committee, said: "In setting up and expanding Clubnet we listened to what people with mental health problems said they wanted and needed.
"They told us they wanted to be involved in activities in their communities to help them lead an active life and recover.
"Clubnet has proved very successful in supporting people to do this, with many members reporting a significant improvement in the quality of their life as a result of their involvement in the service.
"In particular, the peer support element has allowed people with mental health problems to support each other and take part in a range of activities."
The service is managed through the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) and includes representatives from the council and NHS Lanarkshire.
Audrey Ferrie, locality manager for SAMH North Lanarkshire, added: "The Clubnet service provides people with mental health problems with the information and support they need to access education, community resources and employment opportunities, as well as giving them the opportunity to help others through a peer support network.
"People can access the service by referral from any organisation they may be currently involved with or they can contact Clubnet directly to refer themselves by calling 01236 423 284."
