BALLOONS flew in the sky above a Motherwell primary as pupils released them to mark the retiral of their headteacher who is leaving after 13 years at the school.

Patricia McAndrew, head at Calder Primary, started her career at South Park Primary, East Kilbride, and had spells at Townhead Primary, Orbiston Nursery and St Edward’s Primary, and was deputy head at Glenlee Primary in Hamilton.

She first became headteacher at Thornlie Primary, Pather, before moving to Calder Primary in 1998.

She took on a head office secondment from September 2003 to June 2005 and then returned to Calder.

Mrs McAndrew celebrated her final days at the school with a harvest assembly and party.

A spokeswoman for the school said: “The staff, parents and pupils would like to express a massive thank you to Mrs McAndrew for all her hard work over the years and wish her a happy retirement.”
