THE Greenlink in Motherwell has been reflecting on its achievements in 2012.
At the start of the year, pupils from Calder Primary and Forgewood Nursery took part in a national tree planting programme to commemorate the Queen’s Jubilee.
The Greenlink Community Development Group, then used funding from the ASDA Foundation and Central Scotland Forest Trust, to create a vegetable garden and mini orchard at Forgewood Nursery.
Kids enjoyed a busy summer tackling the climbing wall, mountain biking, bouncy castles, arts and crafts and a rounders tournament. The ASDA Foundation donated litter picks and gloves while store employees volunteered for a day’s clean up at the woodland area in Wood Crescent.
The October rounders tournament resulted in the Babylonians from Orbiston and Daisy Park taking the trophy. The Hallowe’en horror shows at Shields Glen and Braidhurst Street attracted costumed revellers who enjoyed the spooky activities on offer.
The Greenlink’s success was recognised in its upgraded status as a ‘Community Park in the Greenbelt’ in North Lanarkshire Council’s revised local plan.
