Lanarkshire Childcare Services in Motherwell has been awarded a grant of over £5,000 by First Direct to develop an outdoor area.

Based at Elim Church in Airbles Road, it offers a breakfast club and after-school care for up to 63 youngsters from Muir Street, Knowetop, Glencairn and Logans Primaries as well as secondary pupils.

Volunteers from First Direct will join staff on Wednesday, April 23, to carry out digging, planting and seeding and create a seating area.

A new fence has already been installed to make the site more secure.

Lanarkshire Childcare Service’s Margaret Brown said: “One of our parents works for First Direct and had got us funding before.

“The criteria this year was for outdoor, and while it wasn’t something we had really thought about when the funding opportunity came up we thought we might as well.

“We needed the fence put up first so that the area was secure, as we don’t want vandals coming in, but now that is done we look forward to welcoming the First Direct volunteers later in the month.”

Lanarkshire Childcare Services is also seeking other funding to carpet the hall it uses at Elim Church.
