IT might not have matched the Ryder Cup for nerve-jangling excitement, but a charity golf competition at Bellshill Golf Club was well above par as far as two worthy causes were concerned.

The event was headed by Charlie Blair’s team, which also included Chris McGovern, Vic Corolla and Frank Murphy, and they took the honours with a stunning score of 55.4.

But the real winners were Mary’s Meals and St Andrew’s Hospice who both received a cheque for £2,800.

Event organiser Tom McLaughlin said: “We owe a big debt of gratitude to everyone at Bellshill Golf Club for hosting the event.

“We must also thank Scotmid and all the sponsors and those who made donations for ensuring this was a really successful event.”
