More than 2,200 teenagers and staff from took part in St Andrew’s Hospice’s annual Lanarkshire Schools 6K Road Race and Fun Run.
Joined by eight participants from the Community Involvement Group the school representatives created a fantastic atmosphere with everyone adding to the fun of the day by dressing up as super heroes.
Pre-race entertainment was provided by race starter Edward Reid (Britain’s Got Talent 2011), DJ David Cluckie (St Andrew’s High School) and cheerleaders from John Ogilvie High School.
Andrew Flynn. schools and community development co-ordinator at the hospice, said: “The turnout this year surpassed all our expectations and the young people and staff are an absolute credit to themselves, their families and their schools.
“The success of this event would not have been possible without the fantastic support of Strathclyde Park, St Andrew’s Ambulance, Police Scotland and the many volunteers who gave their time on the day.
“We would like to thank all the schools who attended and hope that they had a fantastic time helping us continue to provide specialist palliative care patients and their families from communities across Lanarkshire.
“Our fundraising team has to raise £65,000 every week to maintain these vital services and we couldn’t continue to do this without the terrific support of the school communities who continue to attend our events and give generously to St Andrew’s Hospice.”
Carol Hope and Kaoru Keenan from the event sponsors IHE Stainless Ltd presented the prizes to the first three male and female finishers in the pupil and teacher categories.

Male pupils: 1st - Aidan Gilbride (St Andrew’s & St Bride’s High), 2nd - Straun Paton (Hamilton College), 3rd - Gregor Gillespie (Lanark Grammar).
Female pupils: 1st - Eve MacKinnon (Stonelaw High), 2nd - Emily McNicol (Carluke High), 3rd - Roisin Smith (St Andrew’s High).
Male adults: 1st - David Gardiner (Braidhurst High), 2nd - Stephen Allen (Airdrie Academy), 3rd - Daniel O’Connell (Calderglen High).
Female adults: 1st - Clare Hughes (Coltness High), 2nd - Claire Brownie (Duncanrig High), Donna Jacobs (Airdrie Academy).
