The funds of a key charity for deaf people are £600 better off, thanks to the efforts of pupils at Motherwell’s Glencairn Primary School.

And at a recent special assembly the children got the chance to learn exactly how the cash they raised will be used to help people with major hearing difficulties.

Three representatives attended from Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. and gave a presentation on the work of the charity in which hearing dog Rico was the star attraction.

It gave pupils a fascinating insight into how specially trained dogs can help deaf people in much the same way that guide dogs can be invaluable to people who suffer from profound sight difficulties.

The pupils raised the cash given to the organisation by donating the proceeds from their ticket sales for the school’s Christmas Carol Concert, and through making and selling Christmas gifts.
