BOOK lovers and football fans are being invited to celebrate World Book Day with Motherwell football legend Stevie Kirk.
Catriona Wales, North Lanarkshire Council lending services manager, said: “The evening is the result of collaboration between Motherwell Library and Motherwell Football Club.
“There are few players as popular with the Motherwell fans as Stevie Kirk and we’re hoping for a good turnout to come along and enjoy some banter and share some great memories when Stevie talks about his life and times in Scottish football.”
Affectionately dubbed ‘the white Pele’ due to his goal scoring prowess and deft touch, Kirk signed for Motherwell in 1986 and went on to make over 300 appearances in claret and amber.
Stevie scored the winning goal in the 1991 Scottish Cup win, notched Motherwell’s first ever goal in European competition and becoming one of the few modern players to bag four goals in a Scottish top flight match.
The event takes place on Thursday, March 7, in the Fir Park Stadium Centenary Suite at 7pm. Entry is free.
Book a place now by contacting Motherwell Library on 01698 332626.
