First for kinship carers

Supporting Fostering Scotland launched their summer activity programme at Bellshill YMCA last week.

After securing some funding from Cashback for Communities to provide children in kinship care with a fortnight of events.

Activities included circus skill training from GBT Shotts, a gym experience at Virgin Active in Hamilton, a music workshop at Reeltime Music in Newarthill, dance classes provided by dance teacher Nicola MacAleenan, softplay equipment donated by jungletots in Edinburgh, t-shirt design provided by PM Bejeweled in Cleland and much more.

This is the first time kinship carers in Lanarkshire have been supported to provide summer activities for the children in their care.

Attending the launch were Uddingston and Bellshill MSP Michael McMahon and Anne Swartz, chairwoman of the Scottish Kinship Care Alliance.
