Kind-hearted colleagues at Bellshill Fire Station have handed over a cheque for more than £1,500 to Cancer Research.

Watch Commanders Michael Parlane and Aileen Hall handed over £1,582 to Donna Marshall, area volunteer manager for Cancer Research UK in Lanarkshire, following a successful race night at the station.

The night was so well supported that staff were also able to donate the same amount to Friends of the Beatson and the fire service’s own Family Support Trust.

Donna said: “This was a fabulous way to support Cancer Research UK and I would like to thank everyone who was involved.

“We are the only ones fighting over 200 cancers and each step we make towards beating cancer relies on every pound donated. Our research to beat cancer is entirely funded by the public as we get no government funding for our research work.”

She added: “If we could raise even more funds for research we would help our scientists find answers to cancer even faster, and with this in mind, we are appealing to people from across Lanarkshire to volunteer their time to help us.”
