SCOTTISH SPCA officers are appealing for information after three abandoned ferrets were spotted at a park in Motherwell.
Staff were called to collect the animals after members of the public spotted them near a football pitch on Shirrel Road last Tuesday evening.
SSPCA ambulance driver Kerry McGuire caught one of the ferrets, but the other two ran off.
The frightened female, who has been named April May, is now being cared for at the charity’s Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.
Kerry said: “We believe the ferrets may have been dumped. When I arrived they were really frightened as all three ran off. I could only catch one of them.
“The lady who called walks her dog at the park daily so will contact us if she spots them again and I’ll be going down to try and collect them.
“April May is a really friendly and tame little girl. She was starving when I picked her up but I’m really keen to find the others.
“Whoever dumped them has been particularly cruel as there was no food, water or shelter.
“It’s so cold and they’ll be at risk from prey such as foxes so I hope the two remaining ferrets can be found and rescued very soon.”
Information about the ferrets should be reported to the SSPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
