Viewpark and Tannochside SNP group members were up bright and early for a clean-up at Viewpark Glen.

It was the idea of member Andrew Hughes who, like many people locally, has been alarmed at industrial development in the area in recent years which has resulted in a loss of open space.

He said: “I enjoyed walks down the glen as a kid . The destruction of the glen was an issue that came up many times during the general election campaign and the more recent by-election.

“The group are committed to help preserve and restore this great local asset and we wanted to help in any way we could.”

The volunteers spent hours cleaning the area off Laburnum Road at the glen entrance.

Newly-elected councillor Steven Bonnar said: “We have a great local team of activists and the glen means a lot to them. It might be a small step, but it is one of many community initiatives we intend to have.”

More on the group’s activities can be seen by finding SNPVPandT on Facebook.

Local SNP area organiser Martin O’Neill added: “I thank everyone for giving up their time on a Saturday morning. It is amazing what a little bit of compassion and enthusiasm can do and I look forward to the many ways in which our group can help the local community.”
