Queues not our fault - blame the Games

Roadworks causing lengthy delays for drivers travelling between Motherwell and Wishaw are being blamed on the Commonwealth Games.

Commuters say up to 20 minutes is being added to their journey to work because of queues at several locations. An alternative route via Jerviston is off limits because of roadworks there too.

A North Lanarkshire Council spokesman said: “There are various types of roadworks taking place in the Motherwell area, some of which were rescheduled until after the Commonwealth Games events at Strathclyde Park which brought thousands of additional visitors to the area.

“These works are essential to keep our roads and services operating effectively.

“Unfortunately it is not always possible to avoid delays, but measures are in place to co-ordinate and minimise the effect of these works on the travelling public by utilising the appropriate traffic management and diversion routes, where applicable.”
