Brighter Bothwell members are holding their breath after Beautiful Scotland judges visited the village last week.

Bothwell won the award for Best Small Town in last year’s competition and hopes are high for more success this time round.

The judges are on a tour of the country with their focus on three themes – horticultural achievement, community participation and environmental responsibility.

Brighter Bothwell chairman Marjory Robertson and her colleagues welcomed judges Liz Stewart and Alison Anderson to Gilchrist Gardens in Green Street.

Marjory paid tribute to the volunteers who have worked hard to have Bothwell looking at its best during the summer months. She said: “I am particularly grateful to our ‘Tub Team’ who look after the floral displays in Main Street. As Bothwell has moved from the small town to medium town category this year, we are facing some stiff competition.”

Winners will be presented with their prizes next month.
