A MOTHERWELL charity is having to close after over 20 years of dedicated service.

The Clann Sona Romanian Appeal collected a range of goods for underprivileged and disabled people in the country, operating from a shop on Merry Street.

However, it can no longer afford to run the shop and a warehouse facility it used in New Stevenston, and will close over the coming weeks.

Clann Sona was the brainchild of local husband and wife Hugh and Maureen Fergsuson, with the couple beginning to send aid items to Romania after being inspired by Maureen’s niece Nicola Crawford 22 years ago.

Nicola had visited the former communist country to carry out volunteer work and returned to tell Hugh and Maureen of the plight of some of those she worked with.
