Firpark Primary received a cheque for £2,500, thanks to the generosity of Freemasons across Lanarkshire.

The money was part of £10,000 raised for schools across the region to support work with children who have additional educational needs.

Headteacher Marie Claire Webster said: “This cheque will be hugely beneficial to the school. We’re currently fundraising to build a sensory room which all pupils can access and this donation makes a huge dent in the bill.

“We greatly appreciate it, on behalf of all the children and the staff, thank you very much!”

Provincial Grand Master Bro Tom Davidson handed over the cheque to Mrs Webster as pupils and representatives of local lodges looked on.

He said: “The brethren and lodges have again risen to the challenge and given their generous support for young people within our province.

“I know from the response to the appeal that the brethren of the province were very supportive of the work carried out by the teachers and staff of the schools.”
