Drivers warned as resurfacing works sweep the area

SIXTEEN roads throughout the area will be closed at some stage over the summer as part of a rolling programme of carriageway retread which runs from this Monday until Friday, August 10.

Work will begin in Douglas Crescent, Viewpark, from the extended south eastern kerbline of Myrtle Road, to the extended northern kerbline of Burnhead Street from the beginning of next week.

In Tannochside the entire length of both Kingston Avenue and Baillie Wynd will be affected.

Then moving to Bellshill - Kenilworth Crescent, from the extended north western kerbline of Cochrane Street, north westwards for a distance of around 200m; Bellvue Crescent, from the extended north western kerbline of West End Drive, north westwards then south westwards for a distance of around 200m, and the entire length of Telford Street will be tackled.

Union Street in New Stevenston, from the extended southern kerbline of Burn Crescent south westwards then south eastwards for a distance of around 230m; and in Holytown, Windsor Road, from the extended north kerbline of Shirrel Road to the extended east kerbline of Glencoe Drive, and the entire length of Keir Hardie Avenue are part of the programme.

In Motherwell the entire length of Range Street, Camp Road and Alexander Path; and the access road at Elvan Tower, from the extended north western kerbline of the access Watson Street to its termination, will be tackled.

Craigneuk will see work in English Street, from the extended north eastern kerbline of Kimberley Street north eastwards for a distance of around 35m; and Kimberley Street, from the extended western kerbline of Excelsior Street north westwards for a distance of around 164m.

In Swinstie Road, Cleland, from the extended north eastern kerbline of Wishaw High Road north eastwards for a distance of around 500m, will be the final local road to see work.

Diversions will be in place where necessary, although at Kingston Avenue, Baillie Wynd, Range Street, Elvan Tower and Alexander Path they will not be required.

In a separate project nine roads will be closed at some point between Monday, July 2, and Friday, October 26, to allow for a rolling programme resurfacing works.

The works will start with the entire length of Alice Avenue, Bellshill, and other streets affected in the town are Liberty Road, from its junction with Diamond Street to its junction with Orbiston Road, and Strathview Road, from its junction with Mary Rae Road to its junction with Dempsey Road.

In Tannochside, the entire length of Balmoral Gardens and Kew Gardens, from its junction with Spindlehowe Road, south eastwards for a distance of around 100m, will be tackled.

Motherwell will see work take place in Fife Drive, from its junction with Talisman Crescent to its junction Kinloch Drive, Kinloch Drive, from Fife Drive to its junction with Ashton Street and the entirety of Lorne Drive.

The final part of the scheme is scheduled to take place over the entire length of Woodfield and Ashley Park, Uddingston.

Diversions will be in place expect in Balmoral Gardens and Woodfield and Ashley Park where there will be no alternative routes.

Meanwhile, Mary Drive in Bellshill is currently closed until Saturday, from the junction with Strathview Road to the junction with Mary Rae Road, for resurfacing work.

A diversion is in place.

The north and east legs of Farmgate Square and north east square of Queens Crescent in Bellshill will reopen on Saturday, having been closed as part of the roundabout construction programme on Hamilton Road.
