PLANS are being drawn up to build a new retail development on a site in Viewpark currently occupied by a football pitch and changing facilities used by a local boys’ club.

Up to 150 jobs could be created if Edinburgh based developers MacDonald Estates get the go-ahead to redevelop the site of the Muirpark pitch and pavilion in Laburnum Road.

The council has been approached by MacDonald Estates who are interested in transforming the whole area into an open class food retail development which, they say, will bringing employment into the area as well as enhancing retail provision.

But the clubhouse and pitch is currently used by St Columba’s Boys’ Club for training and local councillors are to seek any assurances that any lost facilities will be replaced.

And national sports agency SportScotland has also said they would only approve disposal of the pitch if replacement facilities were provided by way of compensation.
