FOURTH-YEAR Dalziel pupil Deborah Kerr was selected as one of three under-15 girls from Britain to compete in the Olympic Hopefuls kayaking event held in Szeged, Hungary.

The competition attracts the best kayakers in world for Deborah’s age group and in total there were 27 countries competing.

Deborah competed in two events the 1000m K1 (one paddler) and the 500m K2 (two paddlers) and placed very well in both races, coming fifth in both semi-finals which made her 12th overall in each race, a truly impressive performance.

RUGBY ROUND-UP: For their first game of the new rugby season Dalziel entertained opposition from East Kilbride school Duncanrig Secondary.

In the S1/2 game Duncanrig were much the stronger side but David Wallace and Callum Lingie both showed up well and Fraser Wright scored both Dalziel tries in the 24-6 defeat.

At S3/4 level Dalziel took revenge, scoring at regular intervals to run out 57-5 winners.

Alex Dunn (3), Chris Graham, Alistair McKune (2), Ross Mitchell, Scott White and Josh Clark all scored tries while Liam Crowe (5) and guest player Danny Davis notched conversions. Duncanrig managed one try in the second half.

Dalziel travel to Duncanrig this week for the Kaiser Cup Festival.
