A Bellshill man who committed a stabbing while on early release from jail has been locked up for nearly three years.

Ryan Young (21), a prisoner, got two years at Hamilton Sheriff Court in June last year for threatening a man with a meat cleaver and robbing him of food and cigarettes. He was also ordered to be supervised for a year after his release.

However, Young was back in the dock last week when he admitted punching Luke Leggat and stabbing him on the body to his severe injury in Sapphire Road, Bellshill, on August 4 this year.

As well as being on early release, Young was on bail, given in relation to another matter on May 27.

Sheriff Thomas Millar jailed him for 34 months, including six months from the previous sentence, and said he will be supervised for a year on his release.
