A man accused of hiding a runaway prisoner at his Bellshill home has himself become a fugitive after failing to turn up at court.
Sean Feeney (21) is alleged to have helped Michael McInnes avoid capture during a 10-day manhunt.
Feeney was due to stand trial at Hamilton Sheriff Court next month, but in a bizarre twist a warrant has been issued for his arrest after he failed to appear for a pre-trial hearing last week.
Defence agent Jim O’Dowd said he had no explanation for his client’s no-show.
McInnes, who is serving six years for attempted murder, was allegedly found at Feeney’s home in Shirrel Avenue in December. He had gone on the run from Castle Huntly Prison, near Dundee, after getting a home visit.
Appearing from custody in December, Feeney denied attempting to defeat the ends of justice by aiding and abetting McInnes. After the trial date was set he was given bail.
