A murder investigation has been launched into the death of Bellshill man John Hamilton.

The 35-year-old from was found bleeding heavily in a garden two miles from his Ettrick Avenue home in Burnside Avenue around 8.15pm on Tuesday.

By the time paramedics arrived Mr Hamilton, was pronounced dead.

A section of the street was taped off yesterday (Wednesday) as forensic officers carried out an investigation.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Inquiries are continuing into the death of John Hamilton which is now being treated as murder.”

A post mortem was carried out yesterday.

The police are not saying at this stage how Mr Hamilton died, but the Times & Speaker understands he was stabbed.

Mr Hamilton’s friend John Campbell paid tribute to him on Facebook.

He wrote: “Rest in peace Hammy mate, you’re like a brother to me. Can’t believe it, I’ve not spoke to you for a while and now I’ll never see you or speak to you again. Gutted isn’t the word, it doesn’t feel real bro.”
