A Motherwell woman caught with heroin worth almost £10,000 has been jailed for 19 months at Hamilton Sheriff Court.
Adele Valente claimed she was not dealing in the Class A drug but was merely looking after it for someone she refused to name.
Valente (33), of Kilbrennan Drive, admitted being concerned in the supply of heroin in August last year. Police raided her home and her father’s house next door where the heroin was found inside rubber gloves which were hidden in a sock.
She had previously been jailed for a year for a similar charge, but defence agent Diarmid Bruce denied she was a dealer.
Mr Bruce told the court: “She was put under pressure to keep the heroin for a brief period.”
Sheriff John Miller told Valente jail was inevitable given the value of the heroin and her previous conviction for a similar offence.
More from the court in the Times & Speaker, out on Wednesday.
