A 65-year-old businessman was robbed of his takings by three masked men in Newarthill last night (Wednesday).

At around 11pm the victim was getting out of his car in Greenfield Quadrant when he was attacked and robbed by three masked men who had pulled up beside him in a green coloured vehicle.

It is believed a fourth man remained within the vehicle.

The robbers stole a bag with a four-figure sum of money and made off in the car along Mossbank Crescent.

The suspects are described as wearing dark clothing.

Detective Constable Graeme Lawrence, Criminal Investigation Department at Wishaw, said: “Thankfully the man was not badly injured, however, this was very distressing for him to experience.

“Officers are currently checking CCTV and carrying out door to door enquiries in the area.

“This robbery was targeted. The suspects knew what they were doing and when and where the man would be at that time.

“It’s possible that they had been hanging around the area or may have been in the street or surrounding area in previous days.

“I would appeal to anyone who saw the robbery take place or who has any information that will assist our enquiry to contact the Criminal Investigation Department at Wishaw Police Office via 101.

“Information can also be passed to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.”
