A woman suffered multiple injuries when she was kicked down a flight of stairs after an argument with a man at a nightclub.
Kirsty Smillie had fractures to her shoulder, wrist and kneecap. Her hand was ‘shattered’ and has undergone reconstructive surgery.
Gary Syme (24), of Bluebell Wynd, Netherton, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court last week and admitted assaulting Ms Smillie to her severe injury, permanent disfigurement and permanent impairment.
The attack happened at the Soul Suite nightclub in Wishaw on January 5.
Barry Dunne, prosecuting, said the attacker and victim were at the club separately with friends. They got talking at one point and Ms Smillie said something which angered Mr Syme and led to a ‘hostile’ atmosphere.
Ms Smillie decided to leave, but Syme blocked her way at the top of a flight of 15 stairs leading to the exit.
Mr Dunne said Syme finally gestured to let her past, but after she had gone down a few steps he kicked her between the shoulder blades, causing her to fall all the way to the bottom of the stairs.
Sentence on Syme was deferred until December 4 and his bail was continued.
