CRAIG Cook has taken over as the new Strathclyde Fire and Rescue area commander for North Lanarkshire.

Craig (49) recently returned to the service after completing a three-year secondment to HM Coastguard where he was the UK manager for the Maritime Incident Response Group.

He has experienced a varied career, joining the Royal Navy in 1979 and serving until 1984.

Craig then joined Strathclyde Fire Brigade in 1985 and has served in many posts at several stations.
