Councillors to visit phone mast sites

COUNCILLORS are to visit the proposed sites of two controversial new mobile phone masts in Bellshill and Mossend after objections from hundreds of local residents.

North Lanarkshire Council officials have recommended that o2 and Vodafone should be granted planning permission to put up the masts in Lawmuir Road, Bellshill, a short distance from both Lawmuir Primary School and Orbiston Nursery School, and at Calder Road, Mossend, at the entrance to the Woodlands housing estate.

But members of the council’s planning and transportation committee last week decided to delay their decisions on both applications until they have visited the sites for themselves.
