NORTH Lanarkshire Council has revealed plans to demolish the former New Stevenston Primary School - seven years after it closed.
The listed building in Clydesdale Street has lain empty since a new campus for pupils of New Stevenston Primary and St Patrick’s Primary was built.
The council says despite marketing it twice it has failed to find a buyer and the old school has been a regular target for vandals.
It says money spent keeping it secure would be better going on other education projects.
However, the council’s detailed case for demolition must get the approval of Historic Scotland, given the building’s protected status.
See this week’s Motherwell Times & Bellshill Speaker - out on Wednesday - for more on this story.
What do you think? Should the council continue to search for a developer for this prominent old building or should the bulldozers move in?
