A RESIDENT of a Motherwell street has highlighted the need for North Lanarkshire Council to develop a clear policy when it comes to removing a disabled parking bay that is no longer being used.

Congestion increased on Forgewood Road after the local authority approved a disabled parking bay next to an existing one for over a year, according to the resident.

The resident said the bay was approved for a disabled person who has now left the property. She claims that when she contacted the council to ask for it to be removed, she was passed between departments.

She said: “Everyone I called at the council seemed surprised by the request as if it was unusual.

“Roads said it was a social work issue while the social work department said it was a roads issue. I have been going round in circles since I first contacted them over a month ago.”

North Lanarkshire Council says it was unaware the person had left the property, which is private, and will now need to investigate the issue.
