LITTERBUGS in North Lanarkshire will receive a £50 fixed penalty fine if they throw away their rubbish on the street - this message was reinforced during a day of action.

North Lanarkshire Council spend around £9 million clearing the streets of litter every year, and on Thursday, June 9, they took part in an National Day of Action on Litter to drive home the message that people should put their rubbish in the bin instead of dropping it on the street.

The local authority’s team of environmental protection officers and animal welfare officers invest thousands of hours each year tackling litter, dog fouling, fly tipping and fly posting, and during the day of action they were out in full force to catch the culprits in action.
