A HOLYTOWN man has hit out at North Lanarkshire Council, saying it has refused to help his cancer-stricken wife.

Tom Collins (64) says the authority has knocked back their desperate request for a stairlift at their Main Street home three times.

He says his wife Jean (68), who has secondary cancer of the bone, has trouble making it upstairs to the bedroom and bathroom.

Mr Collins told the Times that, after being refused by social work the first time, they contacted a local councillor who made another request on their behalf.

When this was also rejected, they went through MSP Alex Neil, again to no avail.
