A Bellshill firm best known for making labels and packaging for deluxe spirits brands aims to create new jobs after trebling the size of its base.

Elanders Packaging says it’s too soon to say just how many jobs expansion will bring, but the firm has ambitious plans for its Scottish operation with relocation from Cumbernauld to Bellshill’s Righead Industrial Estate.

Elanders, with 194 employees, has specialised in packaging for Scotch Whisky and other premium spirit brands since its 2013 acquisition of McNaughtans the
Printers.

Elanders UK managing director Chris Hewitt said of the new plant:“Elanders always aims to be one step ahead when it comes to innovation within the packaging and print sectors.

“We are able to offer our customers the very best solutions to meet their individual needs.”

He says the growth plan will include further investment in Scotland, building on the former McNaughtans business in the premium spirits sector.

Mr Hewitt said:”We are looking to invest in both our facilities and people in Bellshill, and we expect to employ a number of new people over the coming months.”

Elanders UK is part of Elanders AB, a company with operations in 36 locations worldwide.

The Bellshill growth is underpinned by investment in new equipmment, including specialist digital print and high quality finishing machinery.

It includes the latest HP digital technology with a digicon unit which will enable printing, die cutting, embossing and the preparation of pressure sensitive labels for premium drinks brands, ready for self-adhesion at bottling plants.

This means spirit manufacturers can “personalise” packaging – for example on gift packs and special limited edition bottles.
