A company aiming to create over 600 jobs in Motherwell over the next three years has already been inundated with ‘applications’ for work.
Ascensos are to base a new call centre support facility at the former Lloyds TSB centre in Airbles Road.
They plan to create 618 jobs by using the centre as a multi-client facility, offering call centre support to various firms in the retail and e-commerce sector.
And although the firm has yet to begin active recruitment, managing director John Devlin said they had already received more than 400 job applications.
He said: “We took possession of the unit in October and since then have been in ‘refurb’ mode to bring the building up to scratch.
“That has involved stripping out the fabric of the building and installing a complete new It infrastructure.
“We hope to be operationally capable and in position to ‘go live’ by the end of April.”
Ascensos plan to have their first 200 jobs up and running by the end of the year and have shown their commitment to the project by buying the unit outright rather than leasing it and will train staff with that training specifically geared to the requirements of individual client firms.
And Mr Devlin said Motherwell had been chosen specifically because of the advantages its location could offer Ascensos and its clients.
He said: “Having run beCogent in Airdrie for 10 years we were familar with the area and transport was a key requirement. But we did look at a number of other options.
“People have to come here from 7am to midnight so Airbles Station was crucial and the new road straight through to Glasgow Airport also makes it far easier to come to Motherwell than it would have been three years ago.”
