Pupils at Bothwell Primary paid their own tribute to Burns by taking part in the school’s annual poetry competition.

All pupils at the school had to learn a Scottish poem and the best from class heats were selected to go on to the final.

The school then held a special celebration afternoon, attended by the parents of the finalists, at which pupils recited their poems.

To add to the Scottish flavour of the event other pupils also gave a display of Highland dancing and there was Irn Bru and tablet to be enjoyed.

The recitations were judged by the Rev James Gibson from Bothwell Parish Church and Alison McGuigan from Uddingston Grammar.

After much deliberation they chose Grace Kenyon (P3) as winner of the Bairns Quaich for P1-P3, Alex Chambers (P5) as winner of the Junior Quaich for P4-P5 and Tom Keegan (P7) as winner of the Skeoch Quaich for P6-P7.
