North Lanarkshire Council has rejected a motion from independent councillor Frances McGlinchey to put up council tax.

The former SNP member wanted the council to call the Scottish Parliment’s “bluff” to raise additional funding with cuts set to affect services.

However, finance convener Bob Burrows claimed the financial penalties for defying the council tax freeze would be more than an increase would net and the motion was defeated.
