A BELLSHILL man has been named Nurse of the Year at the prestigious Scottish Care Awards.

John Grant (52) won the title for the work he does at BUPA’s Hatton Lea Care Home at a ceremony hosted by TV presenter Michelle McManus, held recently in the Glasgow Hilton Hotel.

John beat off stiff competition from over 400 entries to be selected as the winner.

The senior nurse, who is unit manager at the home, created a bar area and wildlife garden for residents at Hatton Lea.

He has worked at Hatton Lea for 13 years since retraining as a nurse from his original career as a steelworker.

And during that time he has taken on the role of manager of a unit which is home to men who have challenging behaviour.
