A GROUP of Bellshill Academy recently took part in the Mary’s Meals backpack project and with great success.

The project supports families in Malawi who cannot afford to buy basic things like pencils and jotters, or even suitable clothes for their children to wear to school.

The students designed posters to advertise the campaign and also participated in collecting school materials to send off to fellow learners in Malawi.

The project made quite an impact on the pupils such as second year Sophie McGinty.

She said: “It really made me reflect on the things I take for granted. I think this is a very worthwhile project and I’m glad I got to take part in it.”
