Big-hearted customers at Motherwell’s Horseshoe Bar have handed Cancer Research an early Christmas present of £2,000.

It’s the latest in a series of substantial annual donations to the charity from the Horseshoe, which prides itself on its community spirit and sociable atmosphere,

Customers say the regular support for Cancer Research was initially inspired as a way of marking the passing away of a highly-regarded former member of staff in the most positive way.

It means the bar is regulsrly involved in active fundraising rather than simply straightforward collections.

The cash was raised from a number of events which included a sponsored walk around Strathclyde Country Park, and was rounded up to exactly £2,000 by a generous £60 donation from one individual customer.

Cancer Research representative Karen Abernethy was delighted to pay a visit to the Horseshoe to accept the cheque on behalf of the organisation.

The popular town centre bar also strongly supports the neo-natal unit, based at Wishaw General, which typically receives a donation in early summer.
