A man has been jailed for two years after an attack in the victim’s home.
Joseph Buchanan assaulted Stephen Daly in Liberty Road, Bellshill, while on bail in April last year.
Hamilton Sheriff Court heard Mr Daly was dragged from his bed and pulled down a flight of stairs by Buchanan and an accomplice. He was threatened by the men who demanded money. They tried to stab him with a fork before grabbing his mobile phone.
Buchanan (23), of Lochgarry Way, Coatbridge, admitted the assault charge in March. He also admitted unlawful possession of a screwdriver four days before the assault.
Sentence was deferred for background reports, but these weren’t ready for three subsequent court hearings.
Social workers were unable to contact Buchanan, even though he had been in Addiewell Prison for much of the time.
As sentence was deferred for a fourth time, defence agent Nicky Matteo said: “It’s an unbelievable situation.”
Sheriff Thomas Millar finally sentenced Buchanan at the fourth time of asking.
