ARK of Safety, LLOL No 29, from Mossend has been celebrating its centenary with some special events over the past few weeks.
At present the Ark is the largest ladies’ lodge in the county and has also held the blue ribbon on various occasions for being the largest ladies’ lodge in Scotland.
To mark the anniversary the ladies held a special meeting at their lodge in Main Street at which each member received a centenary medal based on the bannerette and representatives of the town’s Imperial Flute Band paid tribute.
This was followed by a civic reception at the Bentley Hotel, Motherwell, hosted by North Lanarkshire depute provost Jim Robertson.
He said: “The Ladies Association in Scotland raise money for many charities including Chest, Heart and Stroke Association, CHAS, Macmillan nurses, and Cancer Research UK.
“I was pleased, on behalf of North Lanarkshire Council, to help them mark their special anniversary.”
The celebrations continue with a centenary parade and dinner on September 10 and thanksgiving service on November 27.
