An investigation has been launched after an intruder apparently ran riot during a break-in at Bellshill Academy.
Police are appealing for information following the incident, which occurred early last Wednesday (August 19) morning.
North Lanarkshire Council said walls within the science base were vandalised and needed cleaned and repainted, while a damaged computer needed to be replaced.
It is believed various foodstuffs had been thrown around during the break-in, which occurred around 5.20am.
The repair bill is said to be a four-figure sum.
It is thought nothing was stolen from the school.
A spokesman for the local authority described the incident as ‘low level but disruptive vandalism’, and called for any witnesses to contact police.
He added: “We strongly appeal for anyone with information behind this pathetic, mindless vandalism at the school to come forward and inform the police.”
Police are trying to trace a man caught on CCTV footage.
He is described as being aged between 15 and 18, with dark brown shoulder-length hair.
Anyone with information regarding the break-in, or who perhaps recognises the suspect description, is urged to call Police Scotland on 101.
Alternatively, call Crimestoppers free and confidentially on 0800 555 111.
