A MOTHERWELL man who spent four weeks volunteering in Ghana has thanked local residents and businesses for their support.
Chris Tyrrell (20) travelled to the West African country last month to work at a local primary school, and even helped build a new one.
And his trip was boosted by donations from generous locals who helped fund the venture as well as provide essentials for youngsters there.
The former Our Lady’s High pupil said: “I travelled with a company called Original Volunteers, which provides opportunities for people to work in different countries worldwide.
“Before leaving, I organised a ceilidh to help raise money to take with me to help those in Ghana. It was held in St Bride’s Hall in April and attended by around 250 people.
“Local businesses donated prizes, and a wide range of generous donations came from local people.
“More donations led to a final total of £4,000 being raised. I was over the moon with this result and am very grateful for everyone’s support.”
