Uddingston flats get go-ahead

UDDINGSTON is to get some badly needed affordable housing after councillors approved plans to build 40 flats.

The development is to go ahead at Hornal Road in Bothwellpark Industrial Estate despite claims that it is not a suitable site for housing.

There were also concerns that one of Scotland's biggest entertainment companies could make a big profit from the sale of the land.

However, Lynnet Leisure insisted earlier this year there would be no lucrative deal and have instead teamed up with Clyde Valley Housing Association to provide social housing.

Given the need for housing in the area, planners felt a switch from industrial use was justified.
