Shop, Eat and Play Local campaign is welcomed

BUSINESSES across the southside are backing The Extra’s campaign to give your local high street a much-needed boost.

Last week’s paper launched the Shop Local, Eat Local, Play Local campaign.

From Business Improvement District (BID) schemes in East Renfrewshire to the food and entertainment scenes across the southside and East Ren, we highlighted all that’s being done to put the area on the map.

Extra editor Allan Hodge said: “The newspaper is at the heart of the community, so it’s appropriate that we should be offering our support — and, hopefully, the support of our loyal readers — to the many unique outlets at the heart of our distribution area.

“Every pound spent locally can have huge benefits for the area, helping local businesses who, in turn, will employ locally.”

This week, chair of the Langside Hall Trust and South Glasgow Heritage and Environment Trust Isobel Barrett called the campaign “a refreshing approach to advertising what is available locally.

“Local businesses need to be supported so that our high streets are vibrant and welcoming.

“The Extra’s cover should be seen as the beginning of a series of publicity for businesses and culture in the southside.”

David Ross, of the Shawlands Business Association, added: “It’s great to see The Extra undertaking a campaign of this type.

“We are working hard with other interest groups to improve the area and make it more attractive to shoppers and businesses, and it is pleasing to see a number of new businesses opening.”

The Extra will continue to promote southside and East Ren communities as great places to Shop, Eat and Play Local — all in the hope of helping our towns to thrive.
