SHOPPERS at Asda in Motherwell were left stunned when over 20 dancers from Jazz Art UK staged a flash mob to introduce a year long calendar of events and activities for Celebrating Lanarkshire 2013.

A banner highlighting the CL2013 website was unveiled by a crowd of over 20 Stan Laurels, who features in the website’s hall of fame, alongside many other popular faces from Lanarkshire.

There will be an array of events throughout the duration of 2013 celebrating Lanarkshire as a place to live, work and visit, with well known county people such as musician Midge Ure and poet Liz Lochhead joining the fun.

2013 has been chosen as it falls upon the bicentenary of the birth of explorer Dr David Livingstone, while New Lanark founder Robert Owen’s book ‘A New View of Society’ was also published 200 years ago.

Ian Livingstone, chairman of Supercounty, Lanarkshire’s Civic Pride Campaign, said: “Celebrating Lanarkshire 2013 is about highlighting the culture and the activities which are an integral part of our life.

“In 2013 we will promote and create an awareness of many of these activities, encouraging people to attend or even to take part in them. We want everyone, and every organisation, to be involved in Celebrating Lanarkshire 2013.”

All events will be listed on the website www.lanarkshire2013.com.
